Dies of Lingering heart trouble. Years of suffering. Funeral at home Tuesday. R.D. James Culmer, the sixth child of John and Sarah Culmer, was born at Northville, Lasalle County, Ill., February 28, 1880, and passed away at his home in South Berlin township, Monday morning, Dec. 14, 1931, aged 51 years. The greater part of his life was spent in Northville, Ill., and its immediate environs. He was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Fish June 24, 1903, with whom he lived for 21 years until her death in 1914. He was again married on March 29, 1916 to Mrs. Elizabeth Schuning at Aurora, Ill. Mr. Culmer moved with his family to South Berlin township in January 1919, where he has made his home during the past 12 years; and where he has lived a respected and worthy life among his neighbors and friends. He endured his long sickness with cheerfulness and courage. He united with the Methodist church in Illinois in his early life; he strove to live a Christian life and bowed in prayer with his wife the night that God took him to Himself. His passing is mourned by many friends and relatives. Beside his widow he is survived by his four children, Mrs. Maria Adams of Ionia, Mrs. Clarissa Merritt of Lake Odessa, Franklin RD Culmer of the United States Marines and Mrs. Dorothy Branson of Saranac, and a step-son, Walter Schuning of Plano, Ill. The funeral service was held at the Culmer home in South Berlin Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 15, the Rev. A. T. Cartland officiating. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Goodemoot sang. The body accompanied by Mrs. Culmer, was taken to Grand Rapids to leave on a night train for Sandwich, Ill., their former home where burial will take place.
