He was born April 29, 1955 in Ionia. He was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War, serving the United States Army and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2514. He was a very talented musician, singer and songwriter. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Monroe Cummings; mother, Joyce and husband John Matthews of Knoxville, Tenn.; father, Phillip and wife Jane Cummings of Lansing; children, Benjamin of Ionia; Danielle and Camden Cummings of Tampa, Fla; step-children, Jennifer (Donnie) Stevens of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; and Jason Shelton of Knoxville, Tenn.; bothers, Marty Cummings of Albany, Ga., and Jeff (DeeAnn) Cummings of Grand Ledge; grandmother, Ruth Smith of Lyons, and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews and step- grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walt and Leonia Halstead and Lloyd Cummings. Funeral services were Monday, April 26, 2004 at the Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tenn. Dan was buried with full military honors by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard.
