The illness of deceased dates back to the time of his discharge from the Cuban war service, where he contracted a spinal trouble, and suffering has been continuous and intense ever since. He was one of the original members of Co. I., 34th Regt. Michigan Infantry, who left Ionia in May, 1898, but his return was from hospital in New York. Capt. Frank D. Curtis’ record shows that Private Perry Cummins was injured on July 15, 1898; arrived with company in New York on Aug. 24, when he was sent into hospital; on Aug. 28 he was furloughed and sent home. He was born at Stanton, Mich., on August 6, 1877, and came to Ionia when four years of age. He was serving his second term as City Treasurer. He passed away at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ed. Warn, 444 North Jefferson street. Funeral from the home at 2 o’clock on Sunday afternoon.
