Olivet cemetery. As Fr. Joseph A. Maier, priest of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church intoned the burial service for the dead the day came to a peaceful close, a fitting ending of a life as peaceful through its 61 years as its closing day had been. We are sure that Charles Currie, whom everybody in the city knew and admired before his departure for the west many years ago, would have liked just such an ending to his work in this world had he been given a last desire. Old friends gathered in the twilight to pay the final respects to his memory, a fitting tribute to a life that was everything to be desired as husband, father and friend. He was a man of deep religious convictions, always thoughtful and sincere in his contact with others, the monument he builded during his entire career will endure with hills where he sleeps through the years. Born in Maine The deceased was the son of Daniel and Catherine Currie, being born at Old Towne, Maine, June 22, 1870. When he was nine years of age his parents came to Ionia and it was here that he received his education in the public schools of this city. On September 23, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Florence McQuillan, of Lyons. Twenty-five years ago the young couple went west where they resided at the time of his death. Regarding this part of his active business life, covering a quarter of a century, we quote the following from the Elma, Wash. Chronicle: “The hundreds of friends in this section of Charles Raymond Currie, office manager of the Mumby Lumber & Shingle Co. of Malone, were shocked to hear of his death Monday night in an Olympia hospital after an illness of only ten days with bronchial pneumonia. During his seven years at Malone he and Mrs. Currie formed a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in the east end of the county, and his untimely passing caused a pall of gloom in the community. “Requiem mass will be said at St. Joseph’s Catholic church tomorrow (Friday) morning at 8:30, when members of the Elma Kiwanis Club, of which he was a faithful member, will attend in a body. Was Manager “Previous to going to Malone, Mr. Currie was office manager in the Bordeaux offices of the company for seven years. He had been postmaster at Malone for several years. Mr. Currie was a native of Maine, and would have been 61 years of age on June 22. He came to Seattle from Michigan 25 years ago. “He is survived by his wife Mrs. Florence Currie of Malone and a son, Kenneth, 12, student at Marymount military academy. There are no other immediate relatives. “Pall bearers have been chosen by Mrs. Currie from among those most intimately associated with him during late years and has requested Mrs. R.F. Wold to sing at the simple services which are arranged. “Active in affairs of the parish Mr. Currie was a member of the building committee of St. Joseph’s church, by whose efforts the fine new edifice recently was completed. “The body will be taken by the widow and son to the family home in Ionia, Mich. for interment in the family plot.
