She was found unconscious on the floor at her rooms at No. 212 North Dexter street shortly before, but too late to be of aid. Mrs. Currie suffered a slight stroke of paralysis some six weeks ago, and it is surmised that death followed another stroke. Mrs. Thayer, who has rooms in north half of same house, said later in the day that quite early in the morning she heard a noise, as if someone falling to the floor, but that the incident did not impress her strong enough to impel her to make an investigation. It is thought, therefore, that she must have lain in an unconscious condition from early morning until she was found about middle of afternoon. Friends were unable to get response from inside at the noon hour. Mrs. and Mrs. Currie came to Ionia from Canada in the late ‘70’s, Mr. Currie as a bridge builder for the old D.L.&N Ry., now the Pere Marquette, and the husband preceded the wife to the better land by some twenty years. The sole survivor of that family is the son, Chas. R. Currie, of Seattle, Wash., who will probably not be able to get to Ionia for the funeral, the arrangements for which are not yet made. Mrs. Currie had many friends in Ionia, and was most devoted to her church duties. She was west for a time, to make her home with her son, but thoughts of her old home friends and agreeable church associations impelled her to return to Ionia about two years ago. She was aged 71 years. Subsequent Publication: Friday, February 10, 1911 The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Currie was attended from the Church of SS Peter & Paul Mon. morning at nine-thirty, Fr. Merke, C.S.S.R. of Grand Rapids officiating. The interment took place in Mt. Olivet cemetery, the casket being borne to its last resting place by Frank M. Wirtz, Theo. Krieger, Wallace H. Hearsey and Edw. Burke. Chas. Currie, son and only living member of the immediate family, arrived Sunday morning from Seattle for the obsequies.
