Ionia Standard, 11 Jul 1890

Charles P., the 8-years old son of Justice James Curry, met his death while
bathing in Grand River, below the highwater road bridge, about 2 o’clock on
Thursday afternoon.  There were four boys in a company, two of whom were
fishing, and young Curry and a companion were swimming.  The latter was making
for the shore, which he had nearly reached, when he suddenly sank out of sight.
 His young companions were unable to render any assistance, so quickly and
without warning did he go down.  The body was recovered after lying in the water
about two hours.
