B. Curtis, of this village, was found drowned in the mill race this morning. he did not come home during the night, and his hat in the water led to the dragging of the race, and the recovery of his body. He was about 50 years of age; has been a resident her for 12 or 15 years, and leaves a wife and two children in destitute circumstances. He was last seen in one of the saloons late last evening, and is supposed to have fallen from the bridge. The Lyons Herald says the theory that M. V.B. Curtis was drowned in consequences of being intoxicated is entirely groundless. “It appears that Mr. Curtis had been quite miserable for some time with the asthma, and was under treatment by Dr. E.M. Hutchinson the day he met his sad fate. As near as can be learned, the deceased started home between 10 and 11 p.m. and when on the lower end of the bridge was taken with a fit of coughing, and leaned over the railing of the bridge, – a position in which he had often been seen before – probably lost his balance and was unable to call assistance. The wife and daughter have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire village in this their hour of grief.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/c/curtis15422nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
