Ionia Sentinel Standard, 30 Jan 1978

Mrs. Claribel O. Curtis, 87, of Okemos, Michigan, died last Saturday evening at
Olds Manor in Grand Rapids.  She had been a resident there the past six months.
 Born in Otisco township September 3, 1890, she was the daughter of Marion and
Orilla (Seymour) Benedict, and was married to Ray E. Curtis January 6, 1910. 
They lived most of their married life in Ionia.

She was a bookkeeper, and assisted her husband in operating the Curtis & Sons
grocery in Ionia for many years.  She and her husband were avid flower-growers
at their residence in Ionia, and she was in charge of the floral department at
Ionia Free Fair for many years.  The moved from Ionia to Grand Rapids in 1950
and then to Okemos in 1963.  In their later years, both were antique collectors
and dealers.

Her husband preceded her in death December 19, 1977.  She was a former member of
First Christian church in Ionia, and a former member of the Ionia Garden Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Maxine) Haga, Mrs. Verne (Jean)
Vogt, both of Mason; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister,
Mrs. Renee Kehlet of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, George Curtis of Grand
Rapids; sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Clary of California, (Laguna Hills).

Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 from Leddick Funeral Home,
with Rev. John E. Cermack of Okemos Community Church officiating.  Interment is
at Woodard Lake Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home to receive
friends and relatives Tuesday from 2 to 4, and from 7 to 9.
