Ionia County News, 1 May 1947

Alvin S. Curtis died of a heart attack, Monday, April 28, in the Ionia County
Memorial Hospital.  He was 78 years old and had been failing in health for the
past two years.

Mr. Curtis was born in Ronald township, January 9, 1869.  His early childhood
was spent in Lorain, Ohio, and at the death of his mother when he was 12 years
old, he returned to Ionia county to live with a relative.  In 1897 he was
married to Elizabeth Danner.  Mrs. Curtis died in 1916 and two years later he
was married to Vera Coy, of Ionia, and they came to the present home on Yeomans
St.  He was employed at the Reformatory as guard from 1927 until he retired in
January, 1946.

Besides his widow he leaves two sons and a daughter, Ronald, Alvin and Miss
Coralie, all of Ionia; two brothers, Fred, of Langford, South Dakota, and
Vernon, of Alliance, Ohio.

Funeral service will be from Evangelical United Brethren church at two o’clock,
Thursday afternoon.  Rev. A. R. Kuehn will officiate and burial will be in
Woodard Lake cemetery.
