Curtis, 88, of Houghton Lake, were held at the Barger-Smith Funeral Home at Houghton Lake Tuesday, April 20, with burial in Denton Township Cemetery. Mr. Curtis passed away at the Extended Care Facility at Grayling April 17 where he was a patient about a year. He was born at Lake Odessa Aug. 18, 1882, son of Henry and Frances (Foght) Curtis. He had been a resident of Houghton Lake for 50 years or more and had operated a general store during those years. Mr. Curtis was the first postmaster at Houghton Lake and served under several presidents. A member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine, he was a life member of the Kiwanis Club and served at one time as chairman of the Roscommon County Republican Committee. His closest survivors are two nephews, Rowland and Wayne Curtis of Lake Odessa.
