Curtis, 89, of Okemos, died Monday evening in Olds Manor in Grand Rapids. He was born in Ronald township, April 9, 1888, the son of George and Abbie Pray Curtis. Mr. Curtis married Clarabele Benedict January 6, 1910 and they lived in Ionia where he operated Curtis and Sons grocery for 30 years. He also operated the cafeteria for the General Motors AC plant during World War II. They moved to Grand Rapids in 1950 and then to Okemos in 1963. Mr. Curtis was also an active antique dealer, a former member of First Christian church in Ionia, a life member of the Ionia Elks, served as a member of the Ionia school board in the 1920’s and on the Ionia board of the Office and Price Administration during WWII. Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Maxine) Haga and Mrs. Verner (Jean) Vogt of Mason; one brother, George of Grand Rapids; a sister, Dorothy Clardy of LeGuna Hills, California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services are Friday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick funeral home with Rev. Eldon Watterworth of First Christian church officiating. Burial is in Woodard Lake cemetery.
