Mr.Curtiss was for years a farmer in Berlin toownship, but in recent years has resided in Saranac. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the Custer cavalry brigade as a member of the Sixth Michigan cavalry under Gen. George A.Custer, and was at one time a prisoner in Andersonville prison. He passed his eighty-fifth birthday last April. Old age was given as the cause of death . Mr.Curtis was for a year a farmer ago. He leaves seven children Arthur N.Curtis, of Saranac; Mrs.Rosa Stowell, Lansing; Mrs.Lillie Smith, Saranac; Mrs.Della Mains, Chicago; Mrs.Edith Mains, Chicago; Mrs.Evelyn Lowrey, Dearborn. Interment will be in the family lot in the Saranac cemetery and Rev.Harry Walker, of Grand Rapids will officiate.
