Curtis, 98, formerly of Belding and Portland, and a resident of Clark Retirement Community of Grand Rapids, passed away Sept. 16, 2003. He was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was Past Master and life member of the Masonic Lodge. He was instrumental in starting the Secretary of State office in Portland and managed it for 15 years. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce, the School Board, Community Chest and the Board of Review. He also owned and operated the Curtis Auto Supply of Portland for over 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruby M. (Grieve) Curtis, who passed away in 1984. Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Ruth (Smith) Curtis; his children, Ruthann (Douglas Ward), Roger A. Curtis, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his stepchildren, Janet Wright and Richard (Dick) Smith; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. For those who wish, memorial contributions to Clark Retirement Community or Hospice of Holland Home would be appreciated.
