Lake Odessa Wave - Times - April 21, 1911
          OBITUARY
   Mabel Clare Curtis was born in Odessa Township, Ionia County, August 3rd, 1889,
and died at the home of 
her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Curtis, April 15, 1911 aged 21 years 8 months and 12
days.
   When she entered school it was at the Lake Odessa high school being carried back
and forth by her father 
or some member of the family.   She was an earnest student and finished the 12th
grade June 1906 at the age 
of sixteen the youngest graduate ever having passed the twelve years work.  Her
classmates were Miss 
Gertrude Carpenter, deceased, Miss Esther Lougley, now Mrs. Henry Scheidel and Henry
Scheidel, Miss 
Mabel being valedictorian of her class.
   From earliest childhood she was of a serious, religious turn of mind and early
gave her heart to God and 
united with the Methodist church at Lake Odessa in 1906 where she had long been a
member of the Sunday 
School.
   She was a faithful member of the Farmer's Club holding the office of secretary
for some time and always 
filling her place faithfully.
   She taught school for one year but on account of poor health and being needed at
home she staid at home 
where her sweet life was a source of comfort to those around her, and where her
influence will continue to 
confirm and strengthen the faith of the loved ones left behind.

   We wish to hereby express our sincere and truly heartfelt appreciation of the
many acts of kindness and 
words of sympathy at the time of the sickness and burial of our daughter and sister
Mabel.  Also for the songs 
of those who sang and the many who sent flowers.
