He moved to the united States in 1852 coming soon to this part of Michigan. On March 7, 1856 he was married to Miss Anna Myers of northwest Woodland a daughter of Geo. Myers and they settled on a farm there where they have lived ever since. To Mr. and Mrs. Curtis were born twelve children eight boys and four girls viz., Eli, John, Alice, Martha, Levi, Ramson, Ira,Myrick, Anna, Wilbur Earl, and Thursey, all of whom except Eli and Thursey are living. John and Levi live near Kalamo, Myrick near Hart, Anna Curtis-Means near Nashville, Wilbur and Earl at home. Alice (Mrs.Oscar Lepard) and Martha (Mrs. Joe Shellenbarger) west of town and Ransom and Ira southwest of town. Mr.Curtis was converted in the Wesleyan Methodist church in 1858 and for some time was a member of that church after which he joined the U.B. church and remained a member until his death. It is a good thing to live and die a faithful consistent member of some branch of the Christian church. He died at his old home in Woodland last Saturday. The funeral service was held from the U.B Church in this village,Monday afternoon in the presence of a large number of the family and friends, conducted by Rev. Skentelbury of the Congregational church he preaching from the test "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints," Psalms 116,15. He was assisted by the pastor Rev. Mr. Yost. The Congregational choir did the singing most touchingly which greatly aided the service. The remains were laid to rest in Lake Side cemetery. Thus we notice the passing of another of our time honored and highly respected pioneers and industrious, kind and affectionate h sand and father and a good neighbor.
