    Excerpts from Grand Rapids Obituary

             COLLEEN CURTIS

Died August 16, 2023-age 90 
Born January 31, 1933 in Muir, to the late Earnest & Bernice (Bailey) Phinney.
Graduated from Rockford High School in 1951, received teaching certificate after 
training at County normal & attending Western Michigan University.
Colleen taught kindergarten through 2nd grade, at Marble School in Keene twp., 
then several elementary schools in the Kenowa Hills District, including 
Pearsall, Fruit Ridge, Alpine & Zinser.
Married William "Bill" Curtis on July 2, 2952, ten day after he returned home 
from Korea War.
Over the years she & Bill lived in Belding, Grand Rapids, Standale, Ada & 
Cascade.
Survived by daughters, Renee Curtis & Kelly (David) Kik, grandchildren, Melissa 
Kik & Allan Kik.
Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William "Bill" R.Curtis, parents, 
sisters Patricia Herrington, Louise Fountaine, Betty Jean Phinney & Phoebe Jane 
Phinney.
Colleen & Bill enjoyed traveling around the U.S & in other countries around the 
world & were foster parents to several children.
Colleen was a member of the Sorority Beta Sigma Phi/Theta Chi as well as 
lifetime member of the Church's Order of the Daughters of the King.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM Wednesday August 30th, 2024 at St. 
Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1025 Three Mile Road, N.E., Grand Rapids,MI 49505.
Visitation one hour prior to the service.
Ashes will be interred in the  church's flower garden near Bill's.
