Hastings Reminder, 14 Feb 2006

Emma Grace Curtiss, age 92, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Hastings, died 
Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids.  Mrs. 
Curtiss was born on October 31, 1913 at Boston Township, Ionia County, the 
daughter of Charles and Grace (McDonnell) Hamblin.  She was raised in the 
Boston Township area and attended Boston Center School, graduating in 1931 from 
Clarksville High School.

She was married to Earl J. Curtiss on June 27, 1932 and came to Hastings 
shortly following their marriage.  Mrs. Curtiss operated a foster-care home for 
a time and then did home nursing care for many Hastings families for several 
years.  She was a member of the Free Methodist Church, W.C.T.U. and the 
Missionary Society of the church.

Mrs. Curtiss is survived by sons, Dr. Eugene (Renzella) Curtiss of Middleville, 
Lawrence (Jenny) Curtiss of concord, Mass., and Rev. Joel (Sylvia) Curtiss of 
Petoskey; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild 
and one on the way; nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her 
parents; husband, Earl on October 23, 2001; brother, Rev. Howard Hamblin; and 
sister, Gladys Hamblin.

Services were held on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Hastings Free Methodist 
Church with Pastor Daniel Graybill and Pastor Donald Brail officiating.  Burial 
was held at the Saranac Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Free 
Methodist Church Building Fund.  Arrangements made by Wren Funeral Home of 
Hastings.
