He passed peacefully with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 18, 1929, at home in Berlin Township, Ionia County, son of Stephen and Sarah (Tanner) Curtiss of Lake Odessa. He attended Hendeliter School, Clarksville School, and graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1947. He was a farmer all his life and also worked at Hough Brothers in Sunfield as a millwright, State of Michigan Hospital of Ionia as RN, and retired in 2000 from State of Michigan Correcions, Ionia riverside Correctional as a corrections officer with 30 years of service. Clyde was active with the Building Committee for the West Berlin Wesleyan Parsonage and the Sanctuary Remodel Committee. He continued to actively farm up to the last days. He married Eula Vermilya, of Ionia, on Feb. 20, 1960 at the Interdenominational Mission in Ionia. They were married for 53 plus years when Eula passed away in December of 2013. He is survived by his children, Clifford (Wendi) Curtiss of Hastings, Wanda (Robert) Johnson of Clarksville, Allan of Saranac, Stephen (Marcia) Curtiss of Grand Rapids, and Melody (Jerry) Rodgers of Lowell; grandchildren, Johnathon Curtiss, Amanda Curtiss, George Johnson, Michael Curtiss, William Curtiss, Kaelin Hardenburgh, Ethan Hardenburgh, Jeremy Frye, Randall (Azjalari) Frye, James Hatfield, Jamie Brown, Matt Rodgers, Kendra Rodgers, Amber Rodgers; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Larry Robert (Carmen) Curtiss; sisters, Linda (Richard) Mason and Lois Curtiss; nieces and nephews, Debbie (Paul) Phillips, Larry Raymond (Elsie) Curtiss, Steve Vermilya, Nancy Vermilya, and Nadine Vermilya. Preceding him in death was his wife, Eula; son, William Burton; father Stephen Curtiss; mother, Sarah Curtiss; brother Stephan Curtiss Jr.; sister, Dorothy Curtiss Hawkins; father-in-law, Emery Vermilya Sr.; mother-in-law, Mildred (Seavolt) Vermilya; brother-in-law, William Vermilya; and nephew, Danny Vermilya. In respect of his wishes, Lehman Funeral Home and Sunset Memorial Gardens will handle cremation.
