She was born September 15, 1944 in St. Johns, Mich., the daughter of Harry E and Maxine Lucille (Hendershott) Hendrickson. She attended the Hurley School of Nursing in Flint prior to her marriage to David Louis Cusack on December 28, 1963 at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Ionia. She later completed a degree in interior design at Montcalm Community College. While raising her four children, MaryClaire worked part time as a bus driver for the Ionia Public Schools and at the Muir Restaurant. During this time she was also an active leader in Ionia County 4-H clubs and served on several state-wide 4-H steering committees. She was instrumental in the completion of the 4-H Goat Barn at the Ionia County Free Fair fairgrounds. MaryClaire continued to be a strong 4-H supporter throughout her life. In 1985, she and her husband took ownership of the Muir Hardware, which they ran together for 22 years. Following her strong belief in volunteerism and community service, MaryClaire was elected on the Ionia County Board of Commissioners from 1993 to 2000, a total of 4 terms. She also served on the Ionia County Road Commission from the years 2000 through 2006, and served on the Eightcap Board in the Tri-County area. MaryClaire had also served a first responder on the Lyons-Muir Volunteer Fire Department. MaryClaire loved pursuing her passions, which included antiquing, gardening and crafts, and she was very proud and supportive of all of her children's creative endeavors. In recent years she had become an active quilter, and was a member of the Ionia Ladies Thimble Club. She is survived by loving husband of 43 years, David Cusack of Ionia; children David and Kelley Cusack of Holland, Mary Catherine Cusack of Lansing, Charles Anthony Cusack of Holland and Jon Blake and Jamie Cusack of Holland; 2 grandchildren Tallon and Blake Cusack; and sister Nancy (Don) MacLangs of Howard City. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 3 at 11a.m. at SS Peter & Paul with Rev. Melvin Fox officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. A rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
