Theresa Sophia Cutler, eldest daughter of James and Clarissa DeLong, was born in Herkimer Co. New York, July 10, 1824. Had she lived 24 days longer she would have been 80 years old. She came to Michigan with her parents in 1842 and was married to Philo D. Cutler November 9, 1843; lived on the farm taken up from the government by her father until Feb. 1899, then at Ionia for nearly a year moving to Muir Dec. 4, 1899 remaining there until her death. Of the family of five girls, two remain to mourn her loss. She was converted about 1858 and was a member of the Church of Christ ever since. She had learned the pleasure of giving, was very generous of her earthly goods. Having no children of her own and having a warm, loving and motherly heart, gave a home and loving care to the homeless. She always knew what to do or say in the presence of trouble, being a lover of truth at all times. Being gifted with repartee and wit was somewhat peculiar and consequently often misjudged.
