The Ionia Daily Standard, Monday, July 20, 1896

Muir, July 20.—E. H. Dakin died at 12 o’clock last night at his home, 1˝ miles 
north-west of town, at the age of 62 years, after an illness of several 
months, during which time he has suffered much.  For a time he so far 
recovered, as to be able to visit Detroit and other places, and also to attend 
to his business affairs in town, but it is thought that during that time he 
overdid, which resulted in a relapse, ending in his death.

He was a prominent figure in the business circles of Muir, for many years, 
being proprietor of the Dakin house in this place for some time or until it 
was destroyed by fire in ’89, when he removed to the farm where he has since 
resided.  Always of a joking disposition, he was one of the important persons 
in social gatherings of the community, and he will long be missed from the 
places he has so long occupied.

Funeral services will be held at the house at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and from the 
Presbyterian church at this place at 2, to which all of the friends are 
invited.
