              BURNS ARE FATAL FOR HUBBARDSTON BOY; DIES TUESDAY
      Clare Daley Uses Gasoline to Hasten Bonfire; Is Caught in Blast

Less than 24 hours after he threw himself on the grass at his home, his 
clothing a flaming mass, Clare Daley, 15, son of Mathew Daley, who lives near 
Hubbardston, died Tuesday morning in spite of efforts of doctors and a trained 
nurse to alleviate his suffering and save his life.

The boy had built a bon fire near the house and when the fire lagged attempted 
to hasten it with what he believed to be a can of kerosene. Through some 
mistake he used a can of gasoline which burst into flames and exploded throwing 
blazing fluid over his clothing.

The boy dropped to the ground and rolled in an effort to put out the fire. HIs 
cries brought his mother to his aid but her attempts to extinguish the flames 
resulted only in her suffering bad burns.

While the fight to save the boy was on, his father drove into the driveway and 
seeing the condition of the boy, tried to put out the fire but his efforts also 
were too late.

After the flames had been subdued the boy was taken to the house and a 
physician called. A trained nurse was summoned from Lansing and every possible 
effort made to help the boy, in his grim fight, but to no avail from the home.

Funeral services were to be held today.

Clare is survived by his parents, three sisters, Martha, Birdella and Agnes 
Marie and a brother, Victor.
