Dalzell was born January 17th, 1851, in the township of Huron, Wayne county, New York, coming with his parents, James and Susanah Dalzell, to North Plains in the year of 1853. He was one of a family of eight children, all of whom have preceded him into that “Great Beyond,” except one brother, George J. Dalzell, of Muir. On November 5th, 1874, he was married to Emma O. Stoughton. To this union two children were born, Bernard F. and Gertrude. Mrs. Dalzell died January 12th, 1888. On September 20th, 1888, he was married to Emma L. Stevens. To this union one daughter was born, Susanah E. His second wife dying June 6th, 1918, since which time he has made his home with his son, Bernard F. Dalzell, of Lyons township. He was among those who took an active part in building the Union church and was a member of the Disciple church for many years. He was a past master of the Lyons Masonic lodge, No. 37, and a charter member of the Ancient Order of Gleaners, several years a director in the Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance company, and took an active part in township affairs. Was justice of the peace for 28 years, was well known throughout the county. He is survived by the above mentioned son and daughters and one step-son, Preston R. Stevens, of Portland, Mich., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Eva Areta, of Mishawaka, Ind.
