Dann, former Justice of the Peace and publisher of the Lake Odessa Wave, died on Oct. 30 in Hasting,. Dann, 88, lived at 917 Fifth Ave. in Lake Odessa. Born on March 24, 1891 in Burnips Corners in Allegan County. He lived with his parents Albert and Alberta in Big Rapids until his father became superintendent of schools for Lake Odessa in 1901. His mother, a schoolteacher, taught the seventh and eighth grades. He graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1910-having worked for his parents at the Wave since he was 14. They had purchased the paper in 1905 and in 1909 merged it with the Lake Odessa Times. After graduation, Dann worked as a printer in Portland,Michigan; then as an editor in northern Michigan for the United Weekly Press Association. He returned to the Wave to work for his parents in 1914. During the 1920's, Dann was a musician in a vaudeville orchestra from Grand Rapids which toured the state. When his father died in 1919, he and his sister, Mrs.Frances Tietz, ran the Wave. After his mother died in 1947, the Wave was sold the following year. In 1938 he married Rena Minter his longtime secretary. In 1957 Dann was appointed to Justice of the Peace. This position he held for over 11 years. In 1977 he was Grand Marshal of the parade for the Lake Odessa Fair, and for many years, his keen mind and memory was a value to the Lake Odessa Historical Society. Dann was a member of the Central Methodist Church. Surviving him are his wife, Rena; nieces Mrs.Donna Wilson of West Simsbury, Conn and Mrs.June Hinman of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also are grandnieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel with the Rev.William Hertle officiating. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery.
