Darby, 69, of Saranac passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 in Ionia. He was born Sept. 13, 1933 in Saranac, the son of Lyle and Helen (Curtiss) Darby. He married Marion DeGraaf July 16, 1959 in Standale. Mr. Darby was a Korean War veteran of the Army. He worked at the Saranac Post Office from 1966 to 1992. He was a volunteer fireman for the Saranac Fire Department of 22 years. He was a member of Grace United Reform Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marion (DeGraaf) Darby of Saranac; children, Jill (Tom) Postema of Lowell, James Darby of Saranac, Jerry (Polly) Darby of Saranac, Donald J. Darby of Lowell and Daniel Darby of Saranac; mother, Helen Darby of Saranac; sister, Sally Gould of Ada; brother, Earl (Carol) Darby of Lake Odessa; brother and sisters-in-law, John (Arloa) DeGraaf, Helen Westveer, Roger (Doris) Krapp, John (Jo-Ann) Bremer, Lawrence (Lois) DeGraaf, Wally (Evelyn) Verslius, Fred (Pat) DeGraaf, Paul (Therese) DeGraaf; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with Rev. Peter Adams officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
