The Portland Review, Thursday, March 30, 1950

Dewayne Darling 2˝-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Darling, of Sunfield, 
former Portland residents, passed away Saturday night at John Hopkins 
hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Alfred Blalock, famous “blue baby” surgeon and specialist, performed a 
successful operation on the child last Thursday.  Death was attributed to a 
stroke aggravated by a rare condition caused by complete transposition of 
arteries and blood vessels leading to the heart.

Funeral services were held at the Mapes Funeral Home in Sunfield Wednesday.  
Mr. Darling is a veteran of World War II.
