Mrs. Darling had been ill for three years. During this time there were weeks when she seemed better, then a recurrence of her malady would necessitate long periods of hospital treatment. She had been in the hospital Monday but a few hours when her unexpected death came. Mr. Darling and Ruth accompanied Mrs. Darling to Grand Rapids, and after they had seen to her every comfort, left her to rest in the hospital while they went to the home of an aunt of Mr. Darling, who was critically ill, and who died later in the evening, to make a brief call. While making this call they chanced to meet the physician of Mrs. Darling, who assured them that she was better, and his words were so encouraging that Mr. Darling and Ruth debated whether or not they should let Mrs. Darling rest or return to the hospital and see her a moment before they returned home. They decided on the latter course, and Ruth as she entered her mother’s room found that she had just died. Only a few seconds had elapsed between the time that the nurse had left the room and the time the daughter entered. Up until her death was noted the same careful thought that she had given for the welfare of others, for some time ago she requested that a post-morten be hled in order to determine if the doctors were correct in their diasnosis of her condition, thinking that this examination might determine something that would be of value to the physicians in treating other sufferers. This was done last night, and revealed tha the rillness had been property diagnosed as heart disease. The life of Mrs. Darling had been one of devotion to her family, her home, and the Baptist church, with which she was affiliated in its various organizations. She expended all of the energies she had during the times when she was feeling better. She had been a member of the Woman’s Literary club for three years, but here illness had prohibited her from taking a very active part. Mrs. Darling was born in Bloomingdale 42 years ago, and was united in marriage to Hiram Darling in 1903 at Bowen Station. They lived in Coopersville and Lapeer before Mr. Darling entered the creamery business, and is now one of the three proprietors of the Ionia Creamery company. Mr. Darling is also one of the school board members and the alderman from his ward. Mrs. Darling is survived by her husband and three children, Clyde, Ruth and Dorothy, all at home. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Giles Wiley, of Detroit. The funeral service will be held from the home, 729 Hackett street, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, with Rev. Alfred Trenerry officiating. The interment will be in the Highland Park mausoleum.
