P. Darling, Bait Shop Owner, Dies Of Heart Attack J. Pearson Darling, 58, passed away at his home at 418 N. Bridge street Thursday noon of coronary thrombosis. He had been in Greenville during the forenoon and returned at 10:30 according to the man who drove for him. When Mrs. Darling arrived home from her work at noon she found that he had apparently become ill and had lain down and died in his sleep shortly before her arrival. The son of Frank and May Pearson Darling, he was born in Stanton, August 10, 1895, and came to this city with his parents as a small child. He was married to Alma Allen of Ionia, April 24, 1918, and she is only direct survivor. He was a member of Olson-Kiste Post VFW 4406, Belding Sportsman’s club, Chamber of Commerce and served in Russia in World War I with the group commonly known as the Polar Bear Company when the temperatures were 63 degrees below zero. His feet were so badly frosted at that time that they have always given him trouble. The was a foreman in the metal finishing department at Gibsons in Greenville until seven years ago, when ill health forced him to make a change and he has since operated his own Bait and Tackle Shop at his home. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 at Fitzjohn funeral home with Rev. H.B. Johnson officiating and the burial was in River Ridge cemetery. Pall bearers were Ward Blunt, Ernest Anderson, Ernest Allen, Fred Font, Harold Clements and Leo McPherson. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Miss May Pearson of Sidney, Mrs. Lena Kunzi, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kunzi and daughter Helen of Hudsonville, Mrs. Bert VanOss of Byron Center, Mrs. Margaret Halstead of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Max Decker of West Branch, Mr. and Mrs. Florian Tung, Mr. and Mrs. Roby Wright, Mrs. Ora Decker, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Font, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Clements, Ural Kinney, Mrs. H.L. Morris of Ionia, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Allen and Gus Flanagan of Orleans, Mrs. A. Agostini of Ionia and Mrs. Edith Decker of Pamona, California.
