Red was born on Feb. 21, 1926 in Belding, the son of Charles and Nellie (Johnson) Darrow. During World War II, he proudly served in the United States Navy. After the war he served as a police officer in Belding and later worked for the Department of Corrections, retiring after 25 years of service. Red had earned a brown belt in karate and even in later years enjoyed weightlifting and staying physically fit. He was a member of the New Hope Church of God, Belding. He was married on July 18, 1983, in Belding to Shirley Shaw and she survives, along with their children Robin Darrow and Jeff Shaw of Belding, Cathy Jo and Bill Hill of Massachusetts, Karen Pugsley of Belding; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; his sister and brother-in-law, Vicky and Sy Sower of Muskegon; and his nieces and nephews. Red was preceded by his parents; his son, Ryan “Bubby”; and one sister Doris Hayes. Funeral and committal services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Kelly Munger officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be given by the Honor Guard of the Belding VFW Post No. 4406. Memorials may be given to the New Hope Church of God or the Belding Museum.
