Fine Young Woman. Member of Local Methodist Church. The relatives and friends of Miss Esther Dassel were shocked at the news of her death Monday following an operation for appendicitis on the previous Monday at Pennock hospital Hastings. Miss Esther was the only daughter of Ernest Dassel living southeast of Lake Odessa and just this side of Woodbury on M-50. Apparently her operation came too late for her recovery. She was 41 years of age although she had the appearance of being much younger. Her smile and retiring nature won for her the friendship of all who knew her. Miss Dassel was a most highly respected and admired young woman. Being left without a mother as a young child she early became the housekeeper of her father and a homemaker for a younger brother. She was a member of Central Methodist church of Lake Odessa. Her place in the home leaves a vacancy which will only be equaled by that in the hearts of her father and brother. The funeral was held in the Baptist church at Hastings on Wednesday at 1 o’clock. The sermon was given by the Rev. A.T. Cartland, her pastor and Mrs. Ena Armstrong and Mrs. W.C. McCartney accompanied by Mrs. A.T. Cartland furnished the music. Burial was in Lakeside cemetery by the side of her mother.
