Coroner Harry Myers disclosed Wednesday that he had investigated the death of a two-year-old Hubbardston girl on November 15. Corner Myers said the child’s death brought the Ionia County Highway traffic told to 17 for 1940, the highest in several years. The Ionia County coroner said Dorothy Datema, 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Datema of Hubbardston, died instantly of a broken neck when her father’s car backed over her as she was playing in the Datema front yard. Corner Myers said the accident was not reported until Tuesday. He said he was accompanied by Deputy Sheriff Ben Neve Wednesday afternoon on an investigation. The child was buried last Sunday. Corner Myers said he would confer with Prosecutor Geer H. Smith following questioning of Dr. F. H. Ferguson of Carson City, who was called to attend the child, but found her dead on arrival. Corner Myers said the Carson City physician did not report the death as required by law. The accident occurred about 2:30 last Friday afternoon. No inquest is to be held Coroner Myers declared.
