Bill was born on Aug. 18, 2012, in Caron City, Mich., the son of Neville and Freda (Kropf) Davarn. He married Bertha Elizabeth (Lenneman) on Sept. 23, 1947. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Pewamo; the Pewamo Knights of Columbus; and VFW Post 3733. He also served in the Pewamo Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years, including 13 years as Asst. Fire Chief and 9 years as Chief. A veteran of World War II from January 1944 until honorably discharged in November 1945, Bill was a decorated soldier, including two Purple Hearts, and served as a combat infantryman with the 2nd Infantry Division where he achieved the rank of S/Sgt. and squad leader in Company L, 23rd Infantry Regiment. He was one of two Michigan veterans invited to attend the 2004 dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Following military service, Bill attended classes at Michigan State College and spent the majority of his professional life as a co-worker of Davarn Equipment Co. in Pewamo. He later worked as a funeral director assistant at Gorsline- Runciman Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby son Michael and brother "Jack" Davarn. Surviving family members are his wife Bertha of Pewamo and their children Timothy (Laura) of Sharon) of St. Joseph; Roger (Barbara) of Pewamo; Barbara of Grand Ledge; Richard (Diane) of Pewamo; William (Carol) of Pewamo; Robert of Pewamo; and Keith James) Cook of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Joseph Catholic in Pewamo with Rev. Father Charlon Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 3733. Visitation is at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Mary's Funeral Chapel in Westphalia, including rosary at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Arrangements are by Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
