       CHESTER DAVENPORT DIED
             LAST fRIDAY
  Chester Davenport, whom The Observer spoke of a couple of weeks ago as 
having suffered amputation of his foot the previous Sunday, died at his home 
in danby township on Saturday morning, aged nearly 75 years.
  For some years Mr. Davenport has suffered from gangrene, and his left leg 
was amputated between the hip and thigh about two years ago in order to save 
his life.  For a time the ravages of the disease were stopped, but it became 
necessary to amputate the foot of the right leg as above stated; but even his 
great vitality could not stand the shock and death came to end his sufferings, 
and it must have been a welcome visitor.
  Deceased was born at Batavia, N.Y. and was married there in 1842, coming the 
same year to Saline, Washtenaw county.  He remained there but a short time and 
then came to Danby township and settled on the farm where he died, more than a 
half century ago.
  Beside a widow he leaves the following children:  Mary David and Julia 
Smith, Mulliken;  Harriet Uri, Portland; Laura Martin and George and Wells 
Davenport Danby.
  The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, of which society he 
was a member, on sunday afternoon last, and were largely attended,  In the 
absence of Rev. Bray, Rev. Millard conducted services at the house and Rev. 
Halsey at the church.
  Deceased had always lived an honorable, upright life; and during his years 
of suffering was never heard to complain, but often praying that death might 
come to relieve his suffering.
