Davids died suddenly Saturday evening. She had just been advised by telephone of the death of a brother-in-law, Rev. D. C. Reihl, at Kalamazoo. The news affected her greatly, but she called Charlotte on the long distance wire and informed another brother-in-law of what had happened. As she sat at the desk with the receiver in her hand, her daughter, Mrs. Sprague, heard her words falter and as she said good-bye the receiver slipped from her grasp. It was believed she had fainted. Dr. R. W. Alton was called and pronounced it a case of apoplexy. An hour later she died. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church in Portland Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Floyd L. Blewfield officiating. Burial will be in Portland cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Davids moved to Portland from Danby about five years ago. They built a fine home on Bridge street. A year or so ago Mr. Davids suffered a light stroke of paralysis, followed not long ago by a second, and he is in very feeble health. A daughter, Mrs. Pearl Sprague, has resided at home and will now assume full care of her father. Mrs. Fred Klotz, of Orange, is the other daughter. Joseph Ashworth, of Lansing, is a brother, and Mrs. L. G. Lemon, of Sunfield, a sister. A half sister lives at Orange, N.Y., and a half brother at Woodhull, the same state. Mrs. Davids’ maiden name was Katherine Ashworth, and her father was Rev. Joseph Ashworth, a Methodist preacher. She was born at Sodus, N.Y., August 14, 1861, her parents locating at Lansing in 1871. She married Samuel F. Davids September 18, 1878, and for many years the couple resided in Danby, on a farm near Compton’s corners. Mr. Davids gave up farming when he came to Portland. Hospitality was always assured the visitor at the Davids home, and Mrs. Davids had a wide circle of friends. Rev. Reihl, the brother-in-law whose death so affected Mrs. Davids, was a Methodist preacher. He had just come to the Michigan conference and had been assigned to a pastorate at Newton, Mich., but first went to Kalamazoo for an operation. He died on the table.
