He was the son of A.C. and Emily Davis and was born in Otisco township Ionia county, April 10, 1860, and with his parents, moved into Grattan township, Kent county, in March, 1872. He was united in marriage to Hettie Andrews February 15, 1884, and moved to the present home in April, 1890. He was one of a family of eight children of whom two brothers and two sisters, Virgil, Dana, Eva and Flora, have preceded him. Besides a wife two daughters, Emily and Matilda, and son, Alvin, he leaves a sister, Mrs. John Purdy of Smyrna and two brothers, Robert B. and Charles F., of Grattan to mourn their loss. He was an affectionate and devoted husband and father, beloved and respected not only by all his family and near relatives but by a large circle of friends and neighbors. He leaves behind him a reputation for sterling worth that will endure. He was one of those noblest works of God, an honest man. Funeral services were held at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. G.W. Maxwell of Belding, and were attended by a large encourse of people. Mesdames George and Decker Hoppough of Smyrna sang appropriate music to accompaniment by Mrs. Ed. Insley. The floral emblems were numerous and beautiful. Interment in Smyrna cemetery.
