John E. Davis, aged 73, of Muir, passed away March 18, 2009.  He was born Aug. 
24, 1935 in Portland, the son of Glenn and Josephine (Ingraham) Davis.  He 
married Patricia Mills Nov. 6, 1954 in Lyons,.  John owned and operated the 
Davis Variety Store in Lyons.  He was an active member of First Christian 
Church of Muir where he served as an Elder and a member for the property 
committee.  John was a former member of North Plains Church.  He was a member 
of the Lyons Eastern Star where he was named Worthy Patron.  John was very 
community oriented and was very active with the Food Pantry in Muir.  He was 
involved with the Boy Scouts Troop.  John was a member of Masonic Lodge #37 in 
Lyons.  He drove race cars for 30 years and won many championships.  

John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Patricia Davis of Muir; 
children Michalean Davis Staines of Muir, Rick (Gail) Davis of Gowen, Collean 
(Edgar) Niles of Ionia, Jim (Cheryl) Davis of Ionia, Fred (Cindy) Davis of 
Lansing Stan (Kelly) Davis of Carson City; Kathlean (Don) Champlin of Muir, 
Char (Stan) Hemminger of Muir and Joe (Misty) Davis of Muir; son of the heart 
Clare (Viva) Valentine of Ionia; grandchildren, Anetra (Eric), Darrel “Dude”, 
Tara Jo (Ed), Shellie (Bill), Danielle (Pat), Teresa (Bill Jr.), Chad (Angie), 
Andy (Mandy), Gene, Michael John, Ashley (Elmer), Derek (Christina), Michelle 
(Jason), David (Veronica), Fred, Cody, Carlee, Caylee, Isabella, Gabriella, 
Justine, Donald John “D.J.”, Parker and Hayden; great-grandchildren, Taylor, 
Chloe, Cassandra, Kaylie, Don, Emily, Madyson, Payton, Wilson, Anoliese, 
Aiden, Ashley, Breanna, Lauren, Bryan, Zeke, Mackenzie, Michael Bailey, 
Lindsey, Savannah, Chloe, Autumn, Logan, Mayson and Tiegen; brother Richard 
Davis of Lake Odessa and sister Julie Fyan of Lyons.  He is preceded in death 
by 1 son John E. Davis II, grandson David John, sister-in-law Betty, brother-
in-law Fred and son-in-law Darrell Staines.

Memorial services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday at North Plains Church with 
Pastor Greg Gladding officiating.  The family will receive friends and 
relatives 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements 
by Lake Funeral Home in Muir.  In lieu of flowers you may make memorial 
contributions to the family.
