Oct. 17, 1941 After an illness of some time, Mrs. Mary Rose Davis, 78, died Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at her home at 520 Harrison street. She was born September 25, 1863, in Orange township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Utter. At the age of 18 she married Gordon Davis. At that time he was a captain in the Salvation Army, and she later became a captain also. The couple traveled extensively throughout the United States. During World war No. 1 she devoted her entire time to Red Cross work. Following his death in 1936 in Big Rapids, she made her home in Ionia and had lived alone. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Nichols of Ionia and Mrs. Hattie Hubbard of Battle Creek, and a brother, Elmer W. Utter, of near Belding. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Stone funeral home with Rev. C.A. Brady officiating. Interment will be at the Balcom cemetery.
