                              Obituary

Asa C.Davis departed this life July 8th 1884. He was born in Sherbon, Shenanago 
County, in the state of N.Y., Oct.20, 1910. He was the son of Joshna Davis, of 
Puritan stock.His mother's maiden name was Nancy Sulivan, of Irish and Italian 
descent.He grew to manhood in the state of N.Y,. In very early life he was 
thrown upon the world to provide for himself. He was married to Miss Louisa 
Bacon of Gustavus O., December 10th, 1834. He removed to the state of Michigan 
in the fall of 1842 with his wife and three children;  when he reached Portland 
and found himself and family in a new and strange country, without home or 
friends, he had but two dollars to commence life anew with he worked the first 
year for a man by the name of Nicholson for fifteen dollars a month. He worked 
nine years for Newman & Co. In 1850 he bought the land from which by hard labor 
he made the farm he occupied at the time of his death. he encountered the common 
hardships of pioneer life, and raised his family of five children, all of whom 
are still living, and married and settled in life; except his only son Jasper, 
who after his marriage, lost his life in the service of his country during the 
war of the rebellion. His first wife who had been one of the most faithful of 
women and was the mother of his children, left her home on earth for her home in 
heaven Oct.11,1874, he was married again to Mrs.Sarah A. wo__ of Eagle, Clinton 
County,Michigan.
