Benton Yates, superintendent of schools at Livonia and former Ionia resident, of the death of Mrs. Marion M. Davis, 90, Thursday at Asheville, N.C. She had been ill some time and had been in Appalachian Hall hospital in Asheville where she had lived since 1951. Mrs. Davis was the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Alan B. Morse and was born in Ionia, February 29, 1876. She was the widow of Elvert M. Davis who was related to Judge F.D.M. Davis. She attended Ionia public schools. Mrs. Davis’ husband was general solicitor of the Pennsylvania railroad in Philadelphia before his retirement. She was an author and genealogist. She wrote books among which were Island Stories and Bates Boys on the Western Waters. Survivors include four nephews, Supt. Yates of Livonia, Lee Van Allen Yates of Wayne, Pa., Dan J. Morse and Allen H. Morse of Lewisville, Texas, all former Ionians. Mr. and Mrs. Davis also had lived in Grand Rapids for many years. She is to be buried in Tallahassee, Florida beside her husband.
