Mrs. Davis was enjoying her usual good health for a person of her age up to the last Friday afternoon, when she was suddenly stricken with a serious illness. She went to the front porch of her residence on Bridge street, where she lived alone, and attracted the attention of Mrs. Dingman, a neighbor, by pounding on the floor with a stick. She soon died in Mrs. Dingman’s arms, and W. O. Wescott, who happened to be near, helped carry the body into the house. The forenoon of the day she died Mrs. Davis had washed a few articles and it is thought she overdid, a stroke of apoplexy being given as the cause of her death. She was 86 years and 9 months old. She was the second wife of Mr. Davis, her name being Way and her home Lyons when she became Mrs. Davis. She has resided in Portland many years. She leaves no children but is survived by a sister, Mr. Harvey Pilkinton of Portland, and a brother whose whereabouts are not known. Beside these, Mrs. Harry Boughner of Lansing is the daughter of an adopted son. Funeral services were held from her late home Sunday afternoon by Rev. Buell, of whose church deceased was a member.
