He married there and came from Ontario county to Michigan, direct to Ionia, in March, 1873. During his residence here he filled various positions of public trust, having been elected city collector for one term, and deputy sheriff under Sheriff Mattison until the close of his term, when he was reappointed and served until recently under Sheriff Toan. He was a member of the Ionia lodge F. & A. M., No 36, and of Ionia chapter No. 14, and for several years was a member of the light guards of this city. He was highly respected by those who knew him, and was known as a man of integrity and honor. The funeral took place yesterday at 2:30 p.m. His remains were encased in a handsome rosewood casket with trimmings emblematic of the masonic order. The silver plate thereon bore his name, age (44 years) and masonic emblem. From the late residence the remains were conveyed to the Presbyterian church, where an impressive funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. Dr. Pierson, who took the following for his text: “Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest.” There was a very large attendance at the church. An escort was furnished by the light guards. Ionia lodge No. 26, F.&A.M., and Washtenong lodge No. 286 F.&A.M. were represented by a large attendance of their members. Music was furnished by the Misses Milligan, Mr. Sweet, Mr. Kelsey and Miss Irish. After the ceremonies at the church, the funeral procession moved to Oak Hill cemetery where the remains were interred. Mr. Davy leaves a wife and three children, Walter, aged 15 years, Libbie, aged 15 years, and Helen, aged 2 years. The family has the sympathy of a very large circle of friends.
