CINCINNATI, OH- Gale Maxine (Brogan) Dawson of Cincinnati, Ohio, was born February, 1935 in Emmett, Idaho and died November 10, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was 71. Gale's parents were Bill and Lelia Brogan. She became a committed Christian at age 16. She graduated from Emmett High school in 1953 and went to NNU in Nampa, Idaho for pre-nursing courses. She took nurses training in Spokane, Washington and graduated as a registered nurse from Oklahoma University in 1959. Gale married Bernard Dawson in 1957 in a double wedding with her sister, Billie Mae (and Carol) Hatlestad. The wedding was in Emmett, Idaho. Gale and Bernie have five children, Daniel (Payette, Id), Darla Johns (Fort Wayne, IN), Darla Johns (Fort Wayne, IN), Duane (Cincinnati, OH), Dea Grove (Ontario, OR) and Dara (London, England) They have 14 grandchildren and two great grandsons. Gale's parents predeceased her. Her brother, Don (Washington) and sisters, Billie Hatlestad (Washington) and Susie Ring (Tennessee) are still living. Gale's husband, Bernard, and father-in-law, Lester Dawson (Clarksville) are living as well. Gale worked as a RN for 30 years concluding her professional career as pediatric nurses with Dr. Nora de La Paz in Ontario, Oregon. Gale's most fulfilling work was a pastor's wife. She worked alongside her husband in churches located in Oklahoma City, OK, Sioux City, IA. West Des Moines, IA, Ottumwa, IA. Red Oak, IA. Ontario, OR. and for the past 18 years in London England. She also directed a pre-school in London for ten years. Gale traveled extensively visiting missions works in Africa, India, Europe and Central America. She edited a mission's periodical which had worldwide circulation. She was an active advocate for foreign missions and contributed generously to the support of this important work. Her interest was especially for children and she was urging special support for them until her death. Gale was a gifted seamstress and artist. Using acrylic, water paint and oils, she captured still life, wildlife and scenic paintings on canvas. She also created an assortment of all occasion cards. Gale and Bernie recently were assigned to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Bernie is Missions Director for the Pillar of Fire International, a Christian Evangelical denomination. At the annual international conference in New Jersey. In June of 2006 Gale was honored by being ordained a Deaconess. She was pleased with is recognition but felt unworthy.
