Day was born December 5, 1814, and died July 24, 1899; aged 84 years, 7 months and 18 days. Mr. Day was born in a small town on the banks of the St. Lawrence river, Canada. About the year 1823 he came with his parents to Macomb county, Michigan. In 1840, March 13, he married Miss Esther Day of Armada, Macomb county, Michigan. The following children were born to them: Julia E., Oscar A., Loren, Emily and Lucy. Lucy died in infancy; Oscar A. Day, of Belding, and Emily, now Mrs. C.J. Drummond, are the only children now living. Mrs. Day died January 2, 1888, since which time Mr. Day has had his home with his daughter, Mrs. C.J. Drummond. In 1846 Mr. Day came to Otisco, Ionia county, and for several years was engaged in mercantile business, until 1870, when he moved to Greenville, transferring his business interests to this then growing town. In early childhood he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which himself and wife were faithful and devout members until the time of their death. Social and genial in his disposition, he won for himself a large place in the hearts of neighbors and friends. Upright in his dealings and devoted in his Christian life, they had the utmost confidence in the integrity of his profession. For the last few years the infirmities of age have been growing upon him, but as long as it was possible he would take his accustomed walk down the street that he might see once more the faces of those he loved so well; and when at last, he was confined to his room, the patience of a Christian, which had always been a characteristic of his life, seemed to be ripening into perfect maturity. Such lives as his tell for righteousness. It was the privilege of Mrs. Drummond, his only surviving daughter, to care for him with filial tenderness and devotion all through the later years of his life. The funeral was held on Wednesday, Rev. R.S. McGregor of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Burial at the cemetery in Otisco, where his wife and children are laid.
