Dean was born December 1830 in Italy Hollow, Yates, Co., N.Y. In 1854 he came to Branch county, Michigan and in 1858 he became a resident of Gratiot county. August 13, 1862 he enlisted in Co. K., 1st Michigan Infantry and served two years in the service of his country. January 28, 1866 he was united in marriage with Miss Eleanor Cummings and to this union came three children, two daughters and a son. One daughter, Daisy, having passed away July 1912. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Emma Russell of Lansing and Jay Dean of this place. Also six grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. E. A. Wolford of Sumner, and a brother, Emory Dean of Marion. In 1891 he moved with his family to Carson City where he has since made his home. He passed away February 4, 1916, aged 85 years and 2 months. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Monday at ten o’clock Rev. W. W. Hurd officiating and the remains taken to Hubbardston where interment was made in the family lot in the east side cemetery. Those who came to attend the last sad rites were Mr. and Mrs. Will Russell and sons, John and Reo of Lansing; Emory Dean of Marion; Mrs. E. A. Wolford and Willis Plank and wife of Sumner; William Naldrett and wife and Lewis Reynolds and wife of Middleton; Mrs. Agnes Graham and Larnour Graham of Matherton.
