He was born on July 2, 1925 in Grand Rapids to Orville and Emma (Weaver) Deardorff. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1943. He married his wife of 65 years, Marie A. McRoberts, on December 19, 1948. Duane spent his early years as a farmer on the family farm near Freeport. He completed his education at Manchester College and began his teaching career in Cromwell, IN. He continued his teaching at Freeport High School. In 1961, he began teaching at Lakewood High School where he remained until retirement in 1989. Duane actively participated in the Michigan and National Education Associations. He spent many summers painting barns throughout the country side. After retirement Marie and Duane enjoyed winters in Palm Desert, CA, and other traveling throughout the years. He was a lifelong member of the church of the Brethren, attending Hope since it originated. He was also a member of the Lions Club. He is survived by his children, Jan (Ross) Livingston, Kim (Dawn) Deardorff, and Dawn (Bill) Vowler; sister, Waiva Lehman; brother-in-law, Daniel McRoberts; sister-in-law, Jean (Keith) Bergy, Betty McRoberts, Geneva McRoberts; grandchildren; Heidi (Drew) Davis, Jason (Samantha) Livingston, Tony (Jodi) Deardorff, Drew Deardorff, Kyle Deardorff, Lorenza Weaver, Faith Vowler and Rose Vowler; four great grandchildren, an many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Emma (Weaver) Deardorff; stepmother, Thelma (Mattox) Deardorff, and wife, Marie A (McRoberts) Deardorff. The family wishes to extend many sincere thanks to the staff of Green Acres for your loving care of Duane the past years. Donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Lakewood Educational Foundation or the Hope Church of the Brethren. Visitation is planned for Tuesday, Feb.26, at Koops Funeral Chapel from 5 until 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at Hope Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon following. Burial will take place at Lakeside cemetery, lake Odessa.
