She was born June 24, 1890 in Indiana and was a woman barber in Greenville, Grand Rapids and Ionia areas. For the past 25 years she owned and operated a small convalescent home in Ionia. She was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance union. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Cecil Pont of Scottville, Mrs. Dorothy Utter of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Velmie Travis, Mrs. Cenchel Hedrick both of Ionia and Mrs. Esther Vermilya of Upland, California; two stepdaughters Mrs. Jessie Bush of Battle Creek and Mrs. Irma Foster of Hastings, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. July 12 five generations of her family met at her home for a family gathering. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home. Rev. Chester Erickson of Zion United Methodist church will officiate and burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Bearers will be Camlin Vermilya, Gordon Utter, David Hendrick, Jr., Carl Harms, Roger VanVleck, Richard Cartin.
