November 23, 2024 DONNA DEATSMAN, age 91, of Lake Odessa, MI passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024. She was the daughter of Daniel D. and Lorna I.(Sedore) Durkee. Donna married Lavon C. Deatsman July 31, 1954 at the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa, of which they were members. She was the mother of Gregory (Kris) Deatsman and Colleen (Pat) Deatsman-Kelley. Also survived by three grandchildren, Amy(Chris) Eaton, Cody (Natalie) Deatsman and Lauren Ritter; great-grandchildren, Ellie Ann Eaton, Harper Lynn Eaton, Grayson Deatsman, Saylor Deatsman; step-granddaughters, Erin Ruse, Laura (Mark) Hayes; step-great grandchildren, Lainey Ruse, Lucy Ruse, Ella Ruse, Ruby Hayes and Vaughn Hayes;Donna's sisters; Dawn (Carlyn) Deatsman and Delora (Jack) Denman; a brother, Deane (Sharon) Durkee, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Donna graduated from Lake Odessa High School in June 1951. She worked at Michigan Bell Telephone in Ionia for two years as a switchboard operator. In 1953 Donna went to work for Dr. Schreib as a dental assistant and later for Dr.Vanzl of Lake Odessa. She lived in Lansing in 1955 and worked as switchboard operator at Reo Motors. In 1957, Donna became a Secretary and office manager to State Farm insurance Agent, LaVon Deatsman for 35 years. For several years she served on the Lake Odessa Village planning Commission and Odessa Township elections. Donna was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #4461. She enjoyed gardening, canning, camping, daily walks and fun with family and friends. Arrangements by Koops Funeral Chapel. Memorials can be sent to VFW Post #4461, to be used by the Alta Mae Frost memorial for graduating seniors to go to college. True to her nature as a planner Donna even authored her own obituary. A celebration of Donna's life is planned for Saturday, Dec.7, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lake Odessa VFW #4461.
