Josephine was born in Ionia, May 21, 1908 the daughter of Helen and Nelson Spaulding. She graduated from Ionia High School and came to Pomona, Cal., in 1926 to be with her husband, Roy G. Decker, who had arrived earlier with his family and had established himself in the banking community. She was a homemaker, devoting herself to her family and taking part in school, church and community activities. She was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and served at one time as superintendent of the Pomona Presbyterian Church Sunday School. She was a campfire group leader and volunteer for Released Time Education. In 1973 she retired from her position as secretary to the Dean of Men at Pomona College, having been in that office for 20 years. In 1994 she received recognition for her 50-year membership in the Pomona Ebell Club. She was a member of the Pomona Valley Republican Women, the Pomona Travelers Club, Volunteer for Vital English, Pomona Valley Dinner Club and Shakespeare Club of Pomona. Surviving are her daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Bill Grant; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Shaver Decker; six grandchildren, Jeff Grant, Shelley Grant, Randles (Scott), and Kris Grant Graham (John) all of Claremont, Cal. Fred Decker of Mill Valley, Greg Decker (Maria) of La Jolla, and Robert Decker (Marcie) of Nederland, Colo.; 13 great-grandchildren, the light of her life, Sarah Jo and Hannah Grant, Emma Jo and Thomas Randles, Katie and Becky Graham, Sarah and Nick Decker, Tricia, Ella and Geny Decker and Alex and Mac Decker. She is predeceased by her husband, Roy G. Decker and her son, Robert E. Decker. Memorial services will be held at the Claremont Presbyterian Church, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation, 1798 N.
