Chas. DeGroote Dies in Hastings

Charles P. DeGroote, 70, 1702 Carlton Center Rd., Freeport, Rt. 1, passed away 
Friday evening, July 6, 1973 at Pennock Hospital, Hastings, following a long 
illness.

He was born January 12, 1903 in Cresco, Iowa, the son of August and Mary 
Lambrecht De Groote and was united in marriage to Zelma Bird of Freeport, 
December 31, 1938. He was a farmer most of his life and the last few years, he 
and his wife had been representatives of the J. R. Watkins Company in this 
territory.

Surviving are the wife, Zelma; two daughters, Mrs. John (Stella) Rine of Kokomo, 
Indiana, and Mrs. Vern (Laura) Miller of Wood School Road, Middleville; two 
sons, Stephen of Freeport and Ernest of Hastings; seven grandchildren; three 
sisters, Mrs. Madge Schrope of Hastings, Mrs. Laura Hooper of Chicago, Ill, and 
Mrs. Elizabeth VanDanacker of Cresco, Iowa; and one brother, Frank DeGroote, of 
Leach Lake, Hastings.
