Brother of Matt J. Dehn, of Portland, Passes Into the Great Beyond. Belding Paper Pays Him Glowing Tribute. Says He Was Never Known to Refuse Financial Assistance to Those Who Needed It. Last week’s issue of the Belding Banner-News has the following comment to make concerning the death of John Dehn, a brother of Matt J. Dehn, of Portland, and a man well known throughout this locality: “John Dehn, aged 54 years, for the past 30 years a well know resident and business man of this city, died Sunday night at eight o’clock at his home on South Bridge street, after having suffered from a disease which could not be conquered for the past two weeks. Mr. Dehn was the proprietor of the ‘Smoke House,’ at the corner of Main and Pleasant streets, and frequent attacks of asthma and other afflictions had at various times kept him confined to his home, and when he was missed this time from his place of business it was thought that he would soon be around again, but the disease had secured a firm grip and on Sunday night at eight o’clock with his passing Belding lost one of its best and largest hearted citizens. None are there who ever needed assistance and who could not get it if the matter was put up to kind hearted Mr. Dehn. His funeral was held on this Wednesday morning from St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Rev. Fr. John A Klick officiating at a solemn requiem high mass, assisted by Rev. Frs. John A Gabriel, of Ionia and Anthony Schneider, of Fowler. Burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery. Mr. Dehn is survived by his widow, three sons, Arthur, John and Sylvester Dehn, and a daughter Helena, all of this city. Also by three brothers, Matt J. Dehn, of Portland, and Joseph and Frank Dehn, of Lansing. Mrs. Alfred J. Jonas and Miss Lena Dehn, of this city, are also sisters. The grief stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community in this, their hour of heavy sorrow.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/d/dehn2813nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
